Power is the backbone of electronic devices, and power adapters provide support for it. Working with a batch of industrial computer manufacturers, we notice that they normally require power adapters with 19V voltage. why? why? why? are you interested in the reasons?
Safety Reasons
Power adapters which qualify as LPS(Limited Power Source) are safer and are unlikely to cause electrocution or a fire due to there being limitations on the output current and voltage they can deliver to an electronic device and could make it pass the safety certification easily.
LPS-related power adapter
According to IEC/EN 60950-1 safety standard requirement, the power adapters that satisfy the following items could be certified as LPS-rated power adapters (Limited Power Source).
Due to the lower risk of fire or electrocution during working, so the materials used in LPS power adapters don’t need to meet the same ratings as some other classes of power adapters, so the cost of production is often less.
Certification and Labeling
The power adapters that comply with LPS standards typically can get the CE, FCC, PSE, CB, and CCC… certification, and testing report performed by safety agencies, such as UL, CSA, or TUV.
For some applications, some certifications may not be required if the power adapter has an LPS rating, ti will help reduce costs.
Battery charging systems Reasons
Some panel industrial computers have batteries inside, so the power adapter that could support battery charging stability is important.
Voltages could be below 19V a little bit, but to meet most events 19V is a useful standard voltage for charging.
The maximum charging voltage of a lithium battery is about 4.2V, it’s required to provide a higher voltage to charge the 4.2V battery to allow industrial computers to work at the same time.
One battery = 4.2 V
Two battery = 8.4 V
Three battery = 12.6 V
Four battery = 16.8 V
Five battery = 21 V.
4 pcs Lithium batteries in series need a 19V power adapter to provide enough voltage for charging and dropping the excess voltage efficiently.
